"Abdul Abulbul Amir" lyrics

Abdul Abulbul Amir

The sons of the Prophet
Are hardy and bold
And quite unaccustomed to fear
But of all the most reckless
Of life for a limb
Was Abdul Abulbul Amir

When they needed a man
To encourage the van
Or to shout "Halaloo" in the rear
Or to storm a redoubt
Then they strait ways and out
For Abdul Abulbul Amir

There are heroes aplenty
And well known to fame
In the ranks that are led by the Czar
But of all the most famous
Of name or the fame
Was Ivan Skavinsky Skivar

He could imitate Irving
Play euchre or pool
And perform on the spanish guitar
In fact quite the cream
Of the Muscovite team
Was Ivan Skavinsky Skivar

One morning this Russian
Had shouldered his gun
Put on his most cynical sneer
While walking downtown
He happened to run
Into Abdul Abulbul Amir

Said Bulbul, "Young man
Is your life dim so dull
You're so anxious to end it right here?
For, infidel, know
You have trod on the toe
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir"

Said Ivan, "My friend
I suspect in the end
Your remarks to be fail, I fear
I mean to imply
That you're going to die
Mister Abdul Abulbul Amir"

Well, they fought all that night
Neath the pale yellow light
And the din, it was heard from afar
Huge multitudes came
For so great was the fame
Of Abdul and Ivan Skivar

A monument stands
Where the blue Danube goes
Engraved there in characters clear
"Here lie the brave Ivan
Skavinsky Skivar
And Abdul Abulbul Amir"
